Nature in transition: challenges and solutions for the future
From Monday 8 September to Thursday 11 September 2025, the fourth Sustainability Week took place on the topic of "Nature in transition: challenges and solutions for the future". In addition to theory, we visited exciting projects and selected partners during the week.

We started the week with a plenary session. After a brief introduction, our sustainability coach Naomi introduced us to the topic of natural disasters. We then presented our own research on selected natural events. A special highlight was the visit from meteorologist Gaudenz Flury (SRF Meteo). He explained to us how weather is created, what influence it has on natural disasters and told us about his work as a meteorologist.
In the afternoon, we travelled up the Rothorn together and hiked along the geological trail. Back in Lenzerheide, we rounded off the day with a film evening - in keeping with the theme, we watched The Day After Tomorrow.

Unfortunately, the bad weather meant we couldn't go ahead with the planned overnight stay in a mountain hut and hike to Medergen. Instead, we had a varied alternative programme: in the morning, we visited the Ap'n Daun climbing hall in Chur to go bouldering - which was great fun. We then travelled to Felsberg, where we visited the impressive rockfall. For lunch, we went to Circolo Plankis, an integration project that offers people with disabilities a supervised working environment.
In the afternoon, we continued to work on the assignments in our groups. We spent the evening together in a cosy atmosphere playing cards and "Gämschen".

Today we made our way to Arosa. Even the journey on the RhB was an experience - we played card games on the way. In Arosa, we visited a soap workshop, where we learnt lots of fascinating facts about the history of soap making. After a walk through the forest, we enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Güterschuppen restaurant.
Afterwards, we took the cable car to Arosa Bear Sanctuary. Hans, our guide, gave us an impressive account of the bears and how wild animals are adapting to climate change. We travelled back down to the valley on the Weisshorn cable car.

On the last day, we took the bus to Davos. From there, we walked around 45 minutes to the Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research (SLF). Julien gave us an exciting insight into climate research and showed us projects, pictures and videos. One of the highlights was a visit to the ice laboratory, where temperatures can reach as low as -50°C. The researchers wear special suits like those used in the Antarctic. We stopped for lunch at the Stau restaurant. Restaurant manager Reto told us the funny story behind the name: "If your girlfriend asks where you are, you can say: I'm still in a traffic jam."
Back in Lenzerheide, we presented our group work: Future scenarios for summer and winter 2080, bringing our intensive and exciting sustainability week to a close.
